Laurel Fork Cabin, Madison County, 202601 / 07

A six-person practice in Asheville. We design houses, cabins and the rooms inside them, mostly within an hour of the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Practice Since 2012

We start with where the sun rises over your lot, and what you want to see from the kitchen sink.

Most of our clients come to us with a piece of land and a list. We walk the site at different hours, then draw the house the land suggests, not the one in a catalogue.

We stay on through construction. Every project gets a weekly site visit from the architect who drew it, and the builder has our phones.

Process Four phases

How a house gets made.

01

Site and brief

Two visits to the land at different hours, a survey, and a written brief we both sign. Two to four weeks.

02

Design

Three schemes, then one. Physical models at 1:50 so you can hold the house before it exists.

03

Drawings and bids

Permit drawings, a full specification and bids from three builders. You choose, we explain the differences.

04

Construction

Weekly site visits, every change order reviewed, a punch list walked together at the end.
